Madison
The Jazz Program in Madison School District consists of four Jazz Bands, two at the High School, and two at the Junior High. Membership in all of the groups is by audition or director recommendation. The Junior High "K" Jazz Band consisting of 8th and 9th Graders, and is under the direction of Mr. Steve Klingler. The Junior High "B" Jazz Band is led by Mrs. Susanna Blackwood and involves 7th and 8th graders. At the High School, the Jazz Bands are under the direction of Mr. Dan North.

Performances usually include local jazz festivals, Academic Awards Night, Chili Cook-Off, and our Spring Jazz Night on May 3rd. If there is sufficient interest in jazz, then a third HS Jazz Band may be formed. Membership is by director recommendation and with auditions when there are more students than we have slots in the group.

Students can receive credit for the High School Jazz Band if they meet the requirements for credit and have 70 class hours spent in rehearsal and study of Jazz. Usually, a listening log is required of those seeking credit. For more information, see Mr. North.
